Inspiration And Motivation – Quickly Conquer The Change Challenges That Sink Your Spirits

The History of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu - Pt 3

A Chinese proverb says, “The journey of one thousand miles begins with the first step.” This applies to the journey of conquering your challenges and difficult changes with motivation and inspiration.

One of the first steps you can take on that journey is to put every challenge in a powerful perspective that enables you to focus forward.

One of the reasons we get stuck in unpleasant feelings, is because we stay focused on the past. It’s understandable; after all, we often want our life to be like it was before our unpleasant life change. We want to fix, change, and recover what’s been lost in the change that’s taken place.

However, when you are focused on the past in that way, your focus is off other key life areas (health, relationships, finances, career, and spirituality) and what you want in those areas…now and in the future. Neglecting those will cause you to lose even more than your adversity has already taken. That compounds your anxiety and unhappiness and leaves you feeling even more down and powerless.

Restoring your life after a difficult life change requires a different focus; a focus on what you can control and create going forward; a focus on something that brings you a sense of motivation and inspiration…even in the midst of a major challenge.

Helen Keller gave us a precious jewel of wisdom when she said, “Much worse than being blind would be to be able to see, and yet have no vision.” Without a clear vision of your desired future, it becomes a cinch to fall back into unproductive focus and frustration.

Holding a vision of the kind of life you want after any challenge, is like plugging into a power source of inspiration and motivation because you connect your present situation to a brighter tomorrow. Your compelling vision of what you want, gives you motivation and inspiration to move forward – up, through, and out of the darkness of your adversity.

The way to focus forward is to adopt the following new attitude for motivation and inspiration:

This attitude puts your challenge in a powerful new perspective — stating that without today…there is no tomorrow. Without today, and the adversity it brings, there is no fulfilling future. This new attitude helps you see your challenge as part of a much bigger picture, which includes a vision that brings you inspiration, motivation, strength, and direction that didn’t exist before.

The firemen and rescue workers in the days after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center applied this wisdom to their enormous challenge, hurt, and anger. They raised the American flag in the midst of the rubble; the symbol of FREEDOM, PROGRESS, STRENGTH, AND SAFETY. The flag gave them a focal point. When they saw red, white, and blue, it sustained them with motivation and inspiration; it spurred them on because they were looking at something much bigger than themselves and their circumstance.

On October 14, 2001, the lights on top of the Empire State Building (which had been illuminated red, white, and blue every night since the attacks) had been turned off to conserve electricity. As a result, rescue workers demanded that the lights be turned back on.

They needed to see those lights, those colors, to continue holding the new attitude, “Today is the day holding yesterday and tomorrow together.” The colors gave them motivation and inspiration to do whatever necessary to restore America. If that included picking up tons of rubble by the handful…so be it.

In order to experience a bright future, we must keep our vision illuminated in the same way. Any major challenge can be transformed from disastrous to a disaster to be dealt with, when we view them as being a part of our journey toward a brighter tomorrow. Motivation and inspiration aren’t possible when trying to change the past. Inspiration and motivation are brought to life in worthwhile now moments that lead to fulfilling futures.

When you think about the person you want to be, and what you want to create your relationships and life to be, you can make your difficult challenges and changes a necessary part of your journey, instead of a misstep into a deep, dark chasm where rewarding futures disappear.
